With everything going on and
burning down in the world right now it is hard for music to keep up with
documenting it so a song called ‘Chessington World of Adventures’ may seem a
little parochial but you should never judge a Beans on Toast song by its title.
This latest single from the troubadour starts off as a story about a mate’s 31st
birthday party and turns in to an attack on the Tory government’s shambolic and
contemptable handling of the Covid-19 crisis. This is the sound of the truth set
to a gently plucked acoustic guitar melody in the tried and tested style of
Dylan, Guthrie and Turner. It’s the sound we need right now.
