I did a bad thing. I judged a
book by its cover and I’m a fool for doing so. The artwork for this new release
from Brit artist Amber Van Day made me think this was going to be some horrible
90s pastiche. But it’s not. No, ‘Kids in the Corner’ feels fresh, new and
driven with upbeat, urban vibe and the kind of chorus that worms its way in to
your head pretty quickly. Van Day’s vocals are assured, smooth and full of
personality with all the slickness of Rita Ora or Dua Lipa but melodic hints of
Martika’s ‘Toy Soldiers’ which, frankly, is a glorious mash up. Great tune,
great looking video and a real uplifting energy.
