Oh, I do so love Brighton bunch Orchards. They have a way of making everything simultaneously joyful and also angular in a way that makes their music like a modern-art sculpture which is a neat trick to pull off. New single ‘Magical Thinking’ bounds into the room like a hyped-up teenager but the voice of Lucy Evers smooths the corners off those angles as the bass pulses and the drums punch with machine-like accuracy. The star for me, however, are the chiming guitars of Sam Rushton that sit this one on the bench between Foals, Charly Bliss and the Maccabees but with a sugar rush about to reach its peak.
