If you’re after exactly one
minute and twelve seconds of lean, mean, agit-pop then stop looking and listen
up. Leather Party is, essentially, the new vehicle from former Brown Brogues
man Vernon and the new single, ‘Your Band’, is just superb. The Salford man
takes a low rumble of a bass line and turns the sinister up to 11 before
whisper singing a vocal from the corner of the studio – only approaching the
mic to clarify that “I don’t give a shit about your band”. As singles go, it’s
unlikely to show up on any Now compilations but it shows an artist unfettered
by the shackles of expectation or the idea of shifting units and we should all
applaud this.
