It’s really reassuring when
artists like Jacknife Lee return to our airwaves with fresh new material. Lee
has a new album on the horizon featuring collaborations with the likes of Beth
Ditto, Aloe Blacc and Bibi Bourelly but this new single, ‘Made It Weird’,
invites Open Mike Eagle along for the ride so let’s dive in, shall we? The
reliably funky melodies are full of Chic guitars and squelchy synths while the
beat is perfect for the triumphant horn infused chorus. Chicago vocalist Open
Mike Eagle makes the most of this track though with his lyrics about social
anxiety and surely the best performance by a solo artist with a stuffed dinosaur
in a music video, well, ever. This bodes well for the new album, very well
indeed.
