Catholic Action – Another Name for Loneliness (Modern Sky/Palo Santo Records)

Release Date: Out Now

I sort of assumed that this was going to be a fairly turgid indie-rock affair for some reason, but it is absolutely not. No, Glaswegian outfit Catholic Action have actually created a song full of unbridled joyousness and given it the title ‘Another Name for Loneliness’ – primarily to fuck with us, I’d imagine. A solid beat and a rambling bass line set us up for the guitars to chime in and the vocals to swagger in like Matt Smith-era Dr Who, completing the package. A Scottish version of the Killers with hints of Deacon Blue, LIFE and Fontaines D.C. but paying more heed to melody and a sense of optimism. Yes, I’m very much sold on this. Thank you.
