BLESSED – EP REVIEW

Blessed – II Blessed (Island Records)
Blessed

Release Date: Out Now

I am so, so pleased the London based duo Blessed are back with their sweet sounds as I was a little worried they may have given up on music for a while. Needless to say, the sisters Loz and Gigi Morgan have been hard at work creating this new EP, ‘II Blessed’, and the hard work has paid off, massively. The first track of these five is ‘Trust Me’ which jumps straight in with a bubbling and bright energy that immediately brings Rihanna to mind but with those trademark vocal harmonies and the kind of melodies that are primed for the big time. By contrast, ‘Enemy’, has a more sultry, late night vibe with beats and bass working together to provide the pair with the perfect platform for their vocals to do their thing with effortless soul.

On ‘All Night’, the tempo changes again with some tight guitar licks getting your hips swaying and your shoulders moving with the defiance of the song. ‘999’ is probably the catchiest track on the EP with the kind of chorus that was just written to be sung back by packed audiences in dark clubs full of smiling faces and perfectly mixed cocktails. The EP closes out with ‘Love Me’ and this is certainly my favourite of the collection as the laid-back guitars lay down a groove for the funky bass to get down underneath before Blessed sing their ode to self-love. I’m absolutely convinced that there is a bright future for Blessed so do yourself a favour and get on board now, this EP will set you up nicely for the summer.
