Welsh-Australian (not a combination
you see every day) singer songwriter Sonny Winnebago is a touch of sunshine on
a gloomy September day. ‘Take Me for a Ride’ opens with a perky bass line
followed by rattling drums and a confident yet simplistic acoustic strum. If
you’re a fan of Dodgy, Finlay Quaye or Squeeze then this will be right up your
street as the strummable and hummable melody is given flourishes with a hint of
clarinet. Winnebago’s vocal is full of easy charm and a little eccentricity a
la Cosmo Sheldrake which makes for an altogether enjoyable three and a half
minutes.
