Welshman Ryan A. James was cryogenically frozen in the mid-1980s as part of an experiment that had the funding pulled by some Tory. Now fully thawed out and roaming the land with nothing but a Keytar and a head-mic, James goes by the name Man Without Country and is destined/cursed (it’s your call) to sing of his pain through the only medium he knows – 80s synth pop. The new single, ‘Forever Endeavour’ (see what he did there), combines the moody vocals of Peter Gabriel and Howard Jones with the kind of melodies that you would have heard on anything from Flight of the Navigator or Weird Science through to Never Ending Story or the Goonies. This is a cinematically glorious feat and even includes a pitch bend solo which makes me want to grow a mullet and roll my suit jacket sleeves up. Definitely get in to this guy but please don’t show him a smart phone, it will melt his 20th century mind.
