The legacy of Marc Bolan and T
Rex lives on strongly but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t stop to celebrate the
genius of the man once in a while. Bolan’s son, Rolan Bolan, has assembled a
supergroup by the name of Beauty in Chaos to record a whole album of T Rex
covers and it features members of the Offspring, the Mission, the Cure, Cheap
Trick and more. The assembled musical
talent tear the classic ‘20th Century Boy’ a new one with that
infamous riff churning out of layered guitars, the soulful backing vocals are
still there, the ivories get a good tinkling and there are more feather boas
than a whore’s boudoir in 70s Soho. The main thing is that all of the gang are
having fun paying homage to the late great Bolan and that is exactly as he
would have wanted it - rock’n’roll should be fun.
