Praise be! The wonderful Swim Deep
are back with new single ‘Sail Away, Say Goodbye’ and having genuinely thought
I’d lost them this is like finding your favourite shoes buried at the back of
the wardrobe when you’d long given up hope. The single opens with the kind of sweeping,
synthetic opulence that you might expect from Duran Duran but is soon matched with
more down-to-earth vocals that mirror the likes of contemporaries Foals or the
Maccabees. With the Midlands quintet huddled in a directionless boat (a
metaphor for Britain right now?), this track brings the kind of uplifting and optimistic
energy of the late 80s and early 90s and I fully expect this to be the euphoric
peak of the band’s live set as they head out on tour this Autumn and right on
in to Festival Season 2020. Good to have you back boys.
