Super Mancunian trio Calva Louise
have a new track out now for your listening pleasure and ‘Belicoso’ is crammed
full of pleasure. There is a futuristic siren-esque blast followed by a frantic
guitar line inspired by the energy of the Automatic’s pop-punk but pumped on
steroids and Red Bull. One of the things I love most about Calva Louise is their
unpredictability as they switch from skittish pop with sugary sweet melodies to
full on, raging rock whilst switching from English to Spanish vocals screaming “Belicoso”
which roughly translates as ‘lairy’. This is for fans of the Joy Formidable,
Shampoo, Veruca Salt, LibraLibra, YeahYeahYeahs and the Gossip which firmly
wedges it in to my favourite single of the year longlist and it ought to be on
yours too.
