BEACH RIOT – SINGLE REVIEW

Beach Riot – Robot (Vallance Records)
Beach Riot - Robot

Release Date: Out Now

Brighton nut-jobs Beach Riot are back and this time they’re on a road-trip to some kind of glam-rock hell – you coming? ‘Robot’ is built around a persistent, stabbing riff that would fit in to a Queens of the Stone Age or the Joy Formidable album as the gorgeous vocal harmonies distract you from the pain of those relentless guitars. When the chorus breaks, we get the sweet relief of a wash of indie-pop jangle before the guitars drop back down in to dirty, growly territory. The schizophrenic nature of this track is a revelation and along with Calva Louise puts Beach Riot right at the top of my ‘best British guitar bands of right here right now’ list. There’s even a demonic and mildly disturbing guitar solo which sounds as though they are playing a guitar through a Stylophone with heavy distortion and I love it. I love it all. I’m going back for seconds…..
