Punk-pop’s answer to Hanson are
back and Not Ur Girlfrenz are in fighting spirit. The all-girl teen trio are
releasing ‘New Kids in America’ and it’s every bit as infectious as Sum 41 and
Greenday in there prime. Perky riffs, semi-rapped lyrics, an impressive range
on the drums and the kind of chorus melody that will have every humming along
while they sit in traffic on their way to the day job. “We’re the new kids in
America, you can find us on social media” they sing, followed by “sunny days
turn in to rain on parades” echoing the dissatisfaction with the status quo
being felt across the pre-voting population of this planet. Not to everyone’s
taste, for sure, but you can’t help but admire their spirit, energy and their
ability to get up and say something about it.
