JAMIE YOST – SINGLE REVIEW

Jamie Yost – Smoke
Jamie Yost - Smoke

Release Date: 31st May 2019

Devon’s finest purveyor of acoustic soul is back but this time he’s trying something a little bit different. No, Jamie Yost hasn’t gone all Krautrock on our collective asses, but new single ‘Smoke’ does more than hint at a new direction. Sure, the trademark atmospherics are there and Yost’s moody, soulful vocal is as tantalising as ever but this time there are beats that elevate this to a commercial radio-worthy slice of balladeering alt-pop. The chiming piano melody is redolent of Noah Gundersen or Tor Miller which, combined with that ever impressive voice, suggests Yost has chosen a path that will find himself appealing to markets on both sides of the Atlantic (and elsewhere, this isn’t Atlantic specific music).
