Portland collective Kyle Craft
& Showboat Honey might have image issues but they’re walking the walk and
talking the talk so who cares what they look like. The band’s new single, ‘2
Ugly 4 New NY’, is packed full of squalling guitars, thumping drums, bubbling
bass and a whole lot of suburban garage band energy. This heady brew is then
topped off with the charismatic vocal of Kyle Craft leering and sneering like
Lou and Iggy singing in a Brooklyn Karaoke bar at the tail end of a three day
bender. Imagine a raw version of Louis XIV or the American cousins of the
Libertines and you’re in the right ballpark.
