Diamond Thug might have formed at
the very Southern tip of South Africa and they might wear their native influences
on their sleeves but there’s a whole lot more going on here as well. On the
evidence of new single ‘Tell Me’, the quartet have taken their Sub-Saharan
rhythms and combined them with the angular sounds of Dutch Uncles or Alt-J, the
darkly theatrical atmosphere of Florence + the Machine and the moody energy of
Anna Calvi. The rolling and undulating melodies make for a thoroughly enveloping
experience and this is certainly one to turn up load to shut out the rest of
the world.
