Now, I know what you’re thinking.
Yawn, not another talented female solo artist from Canada….? Yeah, well, if
they keep coming up with great tunes like this new single from Toronto’s Tilsen
then I’m going to keep reviewing them so the least you can do is listen up.
‘Hurts’ is a stylish and elegant slice of pop with all the grandiosity of
Taylor Swift being directed by Lady Gaga and Palmoa Faith and it’s no surprise
to learn that Tilsen is the child of an Opera singer, such is her dedication to
the dramatic and theatrical elements here. This is a track about the peaks and
troughs of love set to an undulating beat and spiralling melodies, mirroring
the unpredictability of letting yourself be carried away by the winds of a
torrid and euphoric affair of the heart. Keep ‘em coming, Canada. I’ve got all
the time in the world for songs like this.
