THE ARTHUR BROTHERS – SINGLE REVIEW

The Arthur Brothers – Violet Hum
The Arthur Brothers - Violet Hum

Release Date: Out Now

So, there was a lot of hype around the video accompanying this latest release from London trio the Arthur Brothers which always makes me a little nervous about the quality of the music but my fears are misplaced. Waaaaay misplaced. ‘Violet Hum’ opens with a ‘Sledgehammer’-esque fanfare before settling in to a vibe that is somewhere between Cosmo Sheldrake, Jim Noir and Eels after drinking a pot of mushroom tea. Admittedly the visuals are amazing and almost a little distracting so when this one kicks in to full on Talking Heads jamming with Flight of the Conchords quirk-pop with a J-Pop inspired break down and some steel drums. Honestly, this is one of the strangest but most compelling songs of the year and it’s taken a few listens but I am now firmly in the ‘this is genius’ camp. If this isn’t in my best tracks of 2019 list at the end of the year then some very special things would have to have happened.
