I’m increasingly impressed by Australian
artist Jess Ribeiro as she seems to be able to change her style and direction of
travel with each new track. Ribeiro’s new single ‘Chair Stare’ is no exception
to this rule as it opens with a pulsating bassline and rudimentary drum beat
lulling you in to a false-sense of security. Then, with all the energy of the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs but the subdued quality of PJ Harvey, Ribeiro kicks in to a psyched-out
and swirling melody full of joy and mischief, dancing around the garden with
all the freedom and joy of a true creative spirit.
