There’s a squelchy little synth
pulse that hesitantly introduces this new track from Leeds based Imi but it
really is only the very beginning of things. As ‘The Fence’ grows and layers up
like a sonic Lasagne, we get a slinky-esque melody, a soft beat and then Imi’s
voice which forces me to break one of my own rules – Imi does sound a lot like
Kate Bush. More layers, bigger beats and greater energy and, before you know
it, Imi is flying. Soaring all around you with near-operatic vocal ability and
a real sense of gentle, all-encompassing euphoria before returning to terra
firma and that reliably, ever-present squelchy little synth pulse.
