Italian duo Malihini are plying a
healthy trade in downtempo, lo-fi dream-pop with a sense of subdued afternoon
haze about. Latest single ‘If U Call’ blends a range of synth sounds, flat
beats and odd little guitar lines to create something that is far cooler than
the sum of its parts. This is one of those tunes that, on paper, really shouldn’t
work but it really, really does. I think this is in no small part due to the gorgeous
vocals of Federica Caiozzo and Giampaolo Speziale, taking it in turns to sigh
their words atop the assembled instrumentation making this improbable
combination somehow incredibly credible.
