FANTASTIC NEGRITO – SINGLE REVIEW

Fantastic Negrito – A Boy Named Andrew
Fantastic Negrito - A Boy Named Andrew
(Blackball Universe Records)

Release Date: Out Now

Californian bluesman Fantastic Negrito is rewriting the blues rulebook one page at a time and his new single is a big plot twist. ‘A Boy Named Andrew’ reflects on the musician’s time growing up in foster care and is set to a song that is both stompingly direct and darkly uncertain. The blues structure is slung around the room but Middle-Eastern melodic influences, Fantastic Negrito’s hugely soulful vocal and the kind of musicianship that comes from experience and feel rather than overproduced studio time. There is a darkness in this song that is impossible to ignore but if you stare in to the darkness long enough you’ll start to see the shapes and right there in the centre is the flicker of light. Of hope.
