CLEANING WOMEN – SINGLE REVIEW

Cleaning Women – Leap of Faith (Svart

Release Date: Out Now

And now for something completely different. Helsinki trio Cleaning Women describe themselves as ‘industrial avant-garde’ and while that is a great description it should also not put anyone off from listening. This single, the near five-minute epic that is ‘Leap of Faith’, finds us somewhere between Weapons of Sound, Kraftwerk and the Stooges. You see, Cleaning Women are a junk band of sorts, using an instrument list that includes a thunder plate, customised laundry rack, both wooden and metal boxes, a melodic kling klang (whatever that is) and washing machine drive snares. But that is not where the story ends as the three-piece extract a rhythm and melody from their various objects that burrows in to your head and makes you move. Entirely original, wonderfully refreshing and hugely enjoyable. Like the Blue Man Group without the paint and a spare afternoon at the scrap heap.
