Mancunian Juila Bardo is no relation
to similarly named Brigitte Bardot but there’s a sense of connection from the sultry
bass line to the coquettish vocals that does spring up instantly upon hearing
this tune. ‘Desire’ is a lazy, sunny Saturday afternoon of a song taking a long
walk through deserted suburban streets, running a stick along railings and looking
for fun or mischief – which ever comes first. Bardo’s voice has a laconic style
to it that could be mistaken for not caring but actually this is an artist who
keeps control over her emotions for the sake of the song and maintaining her
style. And there’s a lot to be said for that kind of dedication.
