I am so pleased for Charlotte
Gainsbourg that she has all this beautiful music inside her. The weight of such
an iconic surname could be unmanageable for some but there’s no sign of nerves
in any note or beat of this new single, ‘Such A Remarkable Day’. A brooding
start soon gives way to a pulsating electro-indie beat and melody which falls
in to the Goldfrapp meets Christine & the Queens category if you’re looking
for a pigeon hole. Gainsbourg’s vocals are breathy and seductive while the
music pushes you on with a dark insistence which is too delicious to even
consider resisting. I’m not one for predictions but if Charlotte Gainsbourg isn’t
all over the festival scene next summer then something has gone very wrong.
