HENRY JAMISON – SINGLE REVIEW

Henry Jamison – Ether Garden (Akira
Henry Jamison - Ether Garden
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

There is a timeless, almost classic quality to the new single from Henry Jamison like a great short story or a painting that has been reproduced as a poster for every Arts student to blu-tac above their bed. ‘Ether Garden’ has a breathy, reluctant quality to it like early Damian Rice or Zoe Johnston and, as such, the melody does its job by sitting quietly and unassumingly in the background without encroaching on our listening experience. Jamison will appear to the Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens devotees but as the sprinkled piano notes emerge like dew drops from melted snow, I can’t help but feel there is a commercial place for this too – perhaps at the end of a lo-fi indie film as day breaks after a particularly turbulent night. Emotional turbulence though, this is too fragile for the end of a zombie film.
