I have to admit that for the
first couple of listens, I assumed Hana was another product off the
Scandinavian pop conveyor belt but it turns out she’s a Manchester dwelling
Cumbrian – who knew? The 20 year old’s new single ‘Demons & Lies’ does that
sultry, heartbroken alt-pop thing that Robyn and Sia pioneered but adds an
uplifting soaring element to the music that moves it in to the almost trance
Above & Beyond realm. Based an understated piano chord progression you can
imagine this track being performed really powerfully in the Radio 1 Live Lounge
on sparse instrumentation but it’s just as effective with the electronic
embellishments and beats. Definitely one to add to your ‘Fresh Female Alt-Pop’
playlist.
