I’m not always taken with
instrumental tracks being a fan of words and all that but sometimes a track
grabs my attention and this is one such tune. London collective Rumour Cubes
bring the drama and theatrical moods with new single ‘A Flicker of Empty Flags’
that stutters and judders in to live with an intriguing beat. A slithering
bassline, stabbing piano and strings that wind like a flamenco dancer all
combine to make a Muse-esque dramatic soundscape that ebbs, flows and undulates
like the hills of Great Britain as seen from a drone camera scouting for signs
of life after the apocalypse. Rumour Cubes dance the line between earthy folk
and futuristic gypsy melodies and it combines to make a glorious and
cinematically lush experience.
