CHARLIE STEEL – SINGLE REVIEW

Charlie Steel – Staying In, Going Out
Charlie Steel - Staying In, Going Out

Release Date: Out Now

So, Londoner Charlie Steel is one of those artists right at the beginning where he’s finally committed something to a Soundcloud page and taken the plunge of sharing it with the wider world. There’s something about the energy surrounding that point in someone’s creative career that is incredibly addictive so I love getting tunes like this. ‘Staying In, Going Out’ is a nice cut of kitchen sink drama with social observation set to a basic bass line and some keyboards pinched from a Christmas song that I can’t quite put my finger on. Steel isn’t a virtuoso vocalist but if you like Collapsed Lung, Jamie T, East 17 or Man Like Me then you’re probably going to get on with this. More importantly, you’ll enjoy Steel rhyming ‘fruition’ with ‘politician’ and the chorus refrain of “Staying in, going out, drinking Gin without a doubt, waking up alone is a regular occurrence, bored out her brain still looking for a purpose”. More to come, I reckon, but a solid start for sure.
