Kodie Shane is sold as a rising
Hip-Hop artist and that’s not far off the mark but I suspect this might be
guilty of giving her a slight one dimensional pigeon hole. New single ‘Sing to
Her’ features the smooth beats of Hip-Hop, for sure, but this comes in under
three minutes like a slick pop track and, vocally speaking, Shane has more than
a little r’n’b going on with hints of soul in the brief moments when the
slightly annoying vocal effects are given a break. There’s style here in spades
but also substance with the likes of Kelis, Outkast and Janelle Monae springing
to mind in terms of artists that feel like there’s more going on than just song
writing and performing.
