With a new album due out in late
October, Nottingham talent Keto is sensibly starting to alert people’s
attention to her material with a warning shot of a single in the shape of ‘Always’.
The intimate, lo-fi guitar notes that herald this song are instantly arresting but
its Keto’s voice that will knock you back on your heels. With the gentle,
uncertain tones of Beth Orton and the sweetness of a Zoe Johnston or Joanna
Newsome, there is delicate beauty here in the extreme. Like a flower growing in
full bloom through a pile of rocks or the sound of a child’s uncontrollable laughter
through the throng of a city street, Keto cuts through the smog to let light in
to your life and you can’t deny that we all need a bit of that from time to time.
