There’s a line in this new track from Australian outfit the John Butler Trio that changes this up from just a standard love song to something more deep rooted and emotional. New single ‘Just Call’ should or could be called ‘Immigrant Love Song’ because of the incredibly meaningful line “Of all the people I could find I found you, our families crossed the oceans so we could share this space and time, you stole my heart and cracked me open”. Set to a stirring, picked out guitar/banjo line and with a chorus that will have crowds screaming back the words with eyes tight shut, this track is an undeniably emotive love song. But more than that, it speaks of the kind of life that echoes down the generations as the wanderlust of homo sapiens and a whole host of chance encounters have boiled down to a man standing in front of a woman asking her to take a chance on him. Forget the politics, forget the economics and forget the power plays; we’re all homo sapiens, we’re all lovers and we’re all immigrants in one way or another.
