The darkness and energy on this
new track from Banglaore’s Ishani is like a steel grey day break in a bleak
landscape – it’s a new day but already you know nothing happy is coming your
way. ‘Dark Angel’ is rooted in dealing with issues of suicide but this plays
out over the top of melodies that start out as Portishead, work through some
Alisha’s Attic phases and then culminates in a full-on pop anthem with Ishani’s
classy but steely vocal weaving throughout like a threat made of bitter
disappointment. A special mention to the beats on this track which punch
through powerfully and give this track the energy it needs to survive without
being sucked in to a black hole of its own making.
