There’s something about the
stuttering, stumbling beat of this new release from London quartet the Lazlo
Device that draws you in. ‘Known to You’ sounds like a Jazz tune wafting from a
Denmark Street side alley but as it grows through some sax notes and keyboard
ripples you emerge in to a more modern and less traditional world. This has
tones of Manchester bands like Delphic or Everything Everything and breathy
urgency that never really erupts in the way you might expect as it’s too busy
throwing some Spanish guitar in to the mix. I’m more than a little intrigued by
this tune but if I had the chance to get behind the mixing desk I think I’d
probably dial down the sax a little more.
