There’s an instant charm to this track
from Knoxville’s Jake Winstrom that draws you straight in, especially during a
hot summer’s day. New single ‘Blue Eyes Don’t Fail Me Now’ takes the
songwriting class of the Indigo Girls, mixes in some Johnny and June harmonies,
throws a banjo melody in to the pot and then stirs up a whole load of summer-based
nostalgia played out through a sepia filter featuring bike rides in corn fields
and straw boaters. There’s also a bit of Mungo Jerry in there just to seal the
summery vibe and when Winstrom sings “Can’t you see you’re meant for me? Blue eyes
don’t fail me now” you can’t help but go weak at the knees. Country style.
