TOMBERLIN – SINGLE REVIEW

Tomberlin – Seventeen (Saddle Creek)
Tomberlin - Seventeen

Release Date: Out Now

I feel like this track needs to come with a health warning. Not because it’s toxic or full of e-numbers or anything like that but just because to look at it, ‘Seventeen’ wouldn’t seem like anything dangerous. This is a wonderfully gentle song with softly rippling acoustic guitar notes, lethargic strings and the dreamy vocals of Louisville songstress Tomberlin; no risk here, right? Well, if you’ve got a heart of stone and no sense of nostalgia then you might be alright but for the rest of us, Tomberlin’s delivery of lines like “I walk in the breeze like I am seventeen, love is mostly war, and war what is it for?” will have you reminiscing for rose tinted younger days spent in the sun. If you need something to help melt away your stresses and strains and you like the approach of early material by Laura Marling and Beth Orton with a soft American drawl then this one is for you. Be prepared to be stopped in your tracks and sent on a meander down memory lane though, this is not a song that promotes productivity.
