SHE MAKES WAR – SINGLE REVIEW

She Makes War – Do You Really Want to Hurt
She Makes War - Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?
Me? (My Big Sister Recordings)

Release Date: 18th May 2018

Bristol artist She Makes War (Laura Kidd to the tax man) is back and she’s in a dark mood, and no mistake. This take on the Culture Club classic ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?’ starts off as an unrecognisably haunting piece with SWM singing from a dark corner in another room. The dirty, dead-eyed grunge guitars then kick in and were in Elastica meets Hole territory as that familiar chorus chimes out. I’m so glad that this song exists because it flies in the face of the current trend for only covering a song if you’re going to slow it down and sell it to an advertising agency and I love that She Makes War is the one to bring it screaming in to the world. Making A Boy George song sound like indie-grunge stormer with wall-of-sound guitars is no mean feat so get yourself all over this, pronto.
