Fantastic Negrito is still
relatively new to me but even by this second single release I can tell that
this is a relationship built to last. Much like when I first discovered Ben
Harper, here we find a man who can switch from politically charged rock to
organ slathered funk with a healthy dose of soul. New single ‘The Duffler’ is
definitely the latter but there is still an element of injustice and anger in
the lyrics despite the wailing blues guitar solo, Led Zep riffs and those
aforementioned and utterly gorgeous organs. Negrito’s voice is a show stopper
with James Brown’s breathless desperation mixed with in with smooth soul tones
where they’re needed to get the message across.
