The deceptively impish vocals of New Zealand’s Theia don’t even
begin to hint at the powerful force she actually is on new single ‘Bye Bye’. Pitched
somewhere between Alt-Pop and R’n’B, this track has style, sophistication and
class in a Taylor Swift-ish manner but there’s more to it than that, with an
80s inspired keyboard melody and dubby beats mixed in with Theia’s breathy
vocals and a fresh approach to song structure. Comparisons to compatriot Kimbra
are inevitable but should be worn as a badge of honour as they are deserved and
meant entirely as a compliment.
