New England trio Tancred didn’t
do much for me at first listen, I found the jangly guitars of ‘Queen of New
York’ a bit pedestrian and nothing made it jump out at me. That was, of course,
until the chorus dropped and it all made sense in context. This took me right
back to my first experiences with Belly and Veruca Salt with a sense of cool
indifference blending with cotton-candy sweet vocals and the kind of indie-pop
bounce that has been killed off by ruthless record execs after the 90s got
killed off by Y2K. Delicious stuff and very moreish once you get a taste for it
but probably very bad for your teeth.
