The opening bars of the new single
from London lady Hannah Rodriguez borders on the cheesy listening side of music
but then her voice kicks in and nothing else matters. ‘A Final Toast’ is just
another example of how Rodriguez can easily slide in to the space left empty by
Amy Winehouse and bring that Jazz inspired and soul infused sound to a new
generation. There’s a dreamy, almost sleepy tone to this one but that is
punctured from time to time by a quicker more direct vocal delivery. All this
is laid out on a bed of soft guitar notes, lush strings and a sparse beat which
is just there to keep things moving. Gorgeous.
