EMMA BLACKERY – SINGLE REVIEW

Emma Blackery – Dirt

Emma Blackery - Dirt
Release Date: Out Now

If you want the skinny on how to make a cracking alt-pop track for 2018 then you could do a lot worse than studying the new single ‘Dirt’ by the wonderfully sassy Emma Blackery. This song may be presented as a perfectly wrapped parcel with a bow and perfume sprayed liberally around it but when you open up the box you’ll find it’s essentially a severed hand locked in position with the middle finger extended. The wonky melodies and woozy backing vocals bring your defences down for a bit of a dance and a sing-along, but the lyrics give you a firm, full palmed slap around the chops; “You came on Twitter, saying I’m bitter (honey have you looked in the mirror)”. Blackery is a hugely entertaining talent and this is one lady from Essex who could teach those Yankee try-hards a thing or two about effortless put downs and sublime melodies.
