Indie-poppers Be Like Pablo are
making a play for being the latest in a long line of sugar sweet indie stars
from Scotland and, frankly, it’s about time. ‘My King of Girl’ mixes bouncing
guitars and perky, space aged synths and applies to the ‘Stacey’s Mom’
structure of songwriting to make the kind of noise that you would happily dance
around the kitchen to while you’re making a cup of tea. The lyrics are nicely
observed and there’s even a twee video to go along with things which makes this
a delightful little package tied up with a hessian bow but in wrapping paper
covered in words like Zap, Pow and Bazinga.
