ABI WADE – SINGLE REVIEW

Abi Wade – A Bit Like Love

Abi Wade - A Bit Like Love

Release Date: Out Now

There are a few things that Britain is adept at producing at the moment; inept politicians, bang average football players and just terrible, terrible television. However, we also seem to have hit a rich seam of strong, creative and genuinely engaging female solo artists which is a joy to behold. Londoner Abi Wade is the latest one to come along and, apart from the headache inducing press picture, this is a near-perfect alt-pop single. ‘A Bit Like Love’ is centred around a set of sombre piano chords and Wade’s smoothly assured vocal that is matched only by her glorious Cello playing. There is something almost otherworldly about this piece that is touched by winter and crisp white light as it builds with an almost military beat cracking the icicles from the tree. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a song build from such humble beginnings to a glorious crescendo and then ebb away again but ‘A Bit Like Love’ does this wonderfully. Along with Vei and Poppy Ackroyd, Abi Wade is one of the most genuinely intriguing new female talents that I’ve had the pleasure of being introduced to recently. More please.
