I don’t get enough music from
Australia these days, so it was good to hear this latest release from Perth
popster Matt Gresham. ‘Home’ fits neatly in to that pigeon hole alongside the
likes of Ed Sheeran, Avicii and Lukas Graham with a slice of emotionally charged
alt-pop primed for mainstream radio and winning over a whole load of hearts. A
haunting, picked out melody opens proceedings followed by Gresham’s radio friendly
vocal, singing of travels and journeys but also of what home means and what is
important to keep in your heart. “Nobody ever made it on their own” he sings
and there is a sense of genuine sadness at having to do something that you know
will take you away from people and places you love – sometimes you’ve just got
to move on.
