Katie Laffan – Aversion
Katie Laffan - Aversion |
Dubliner Katie Laffan is one of
those artists that seems to plough her own furrow and jump between different
furrows with consummate ease. New single ‘Aversion’ (or is it ‘A Version’?) rattles
and rolls like a smooth funk’n’soul track but Laffan’s vocals are more akin to
Kate Nash or Lily Allen in terms of the semi-spoken word and semi-sung
delivery. The melodies are inspired by the 90s with some phat bass squelches
and a the rhythm has a live jazz-funk aspect to it that gets in to your shoulders
and your feet before you know it. Laffan is hotly tipped for 2018 and on the
basis of this track you can see exactly why, top stuff.
