JAMIE YOST – SINGLE REVIEW

Jamie Yost – Stay
Jamie Yost - Stay

Release Date: 23rd February 2018

Plymouth based singer-songwriting Jamie Yost means business in 2018 and the first step towards some kind of domination is the release of new single ‘Stay’. The haunting opening guitar notes speak of heartache and yearning without a word being spoken but then Yost’s husky, soulful voice joins in and you can’t help but be transported. As the guitar notes ring out with plenty of sustain you can feel the arms of a loved one wrapped tightly around you, holding on for dear life whether it’s because a relationship is ending or you’re leaving for a long time. This song is wrapped up in emotion and as it builds with drums, strings and layered vocal harmonies what emerges is so powerful, raw and beautiful that it’s hard not to get swept up in things. Then, just to shake you out of the reverie the beat changes and stumbles as though you can’t catch your breath from the over spilling hurt and love. If you’re a fan of Noah Gundersen, Above & Beyond’s acoustic work, Ben Howard or Matt Gresham then this should fit neatly in your Spotify play list. Even if you’re not then this is a superb listen and one that arrests your heart and mind in equal measure.
