Montreal musician Danielle Duval
sounds like she should be singing standards in a cocktail bar but Ms Duval has
got more direct and punchy things on her mind. ‘Whenever You Want It’ rocks and
stomps with all the confidence of someone in the first throws of a new
relationship, strutting down the street powered by the steady drums and
chugging piano chords. Throw in some well-placed guitar notes and Duval’s powerfully
direct vocals and you’ve got yourself a catchy little number that is strangely
English in sound but with a definite non-Anglophile accent. I feel like this is
the track Amy Winehouse could have created after binging on the Pretenders with
Pete Doherty on production duties in some abandoned French chateau if only she’d
hung around a little longer.
