Now, this is genuinely exciting
stuff. Northern Irish quartet Brand New Friend are just young enough to be
genuinely fresh an they’ve been picked up by one of my all time favourite
labels in Xtra Mile Recordings. New single ‘Girl’ is garage punk with a
youthful spirit and that secret to eternal energy that the Undertones once
found. The sibling rivalry for the mic between brother and sister combo Taylor
and Lauren Johnson is sweet but it’s also incredibly sharp, bringing to mind
the likes of the Subways and latter-day Ash. Three chords, confused emotions
and a big bag of energy is all you need to start a punk band and these guys
have got all three in spades. More to come from these four, much more.
